16:32 walterbender I think we are Z-to-A this week :)
16:32 vipulgupta2048, are you ready?
16:32 vipulgupta2048 Hi, yes.
16:32 What I did this week:
16:32 1. Submitted 4 PR's. Bit unsure but still working ahead, as mentioned in the mail I sent you.
16:32 2. Didn't write the blog for this time, spent time implementing pipenv, pypy and some new things in Python that I found.
16:32 3. Defining goals for Evaluations (Critical) - Make PR's at least for all the activities that have already be migrated by rdsadhu
16:32 4. Working on my Missing Person's script - Showing little promise - I need a repository that can help me target.
16:32 5. Streamlining documentation that I made
16:33 walterbender vipulgupta2048, /me is a bit behind... what is your roadblock?
16:33 vipulgupta2048 Yes, I been spending a lot of time. Checking if things are missing in activities.
16:34 I need to streamline the same.
16:34 walterbender I suppose lots of scripting...
16:34 did you try the license checking tool that Quozl_ mentioned?
16:34 unimauro <unimauro!~unimauro@> has joined #sugar-meeting
16:35 vipulgupta2048 I will
16:35 My aim is to get PR's for activities merged as they are migrated before the evaluations
16:35 walterbender that will be part of your toolkit
16:35 rdrsadhu vipul, my exams just got over today. Let me know if you need help with something. I should be able to invest more time henceforth
16:36 vipulgupta2048 I think I can do it. Sure.
16:36 Thanks rdrsadhu
16:36 walterbender can try to help with reviews as well...
16:36 vipulgupta2048, anything else to report?
16:36 vipulgupta2048 Coming up
16:36 1. Pass the evaluations; Staying postive.
16:36 2. Have some good progress on other delievrables. Need to complete them
16:36 3. Writing and Merging blog 6 and 7
16:36 4. Will be having a call with Jatin to discuss ASLOv3, also following Quozl's advice and reviews that helps in deploying ASLOv3 sooner.
16:37 walterbender +1
16:37 vipulgupta2048 No walterbender.
16:37 walterbender thanks
16:37 vipulgupta2048 I am sorry for being a bit behind. I will pick up the pace
16:37 walterbender vaibhavdaren, are you ready?
16:37 vaibhavdaren hello everyone:-
16:38 i have sucessfully ported most examples
16:38 fixed  examples in guide
16:38 made a debugging guide for turtleblocks
16:38 walterbender it is very nice
16:38 vaibhavdaren have a look :-
16:38 https://github.com/vaibhavdare[…]de/debug/debug.md
16:39 walterbender will you be making a PR?
16:39 vaibhavdaren i have made a one already
16:39 walterbender oh.. I will look
16:39 vaibhavdaren https://github.com/sugarlabs/t[…]blocksjs/pull/432
16:39 eft remaining tasks of the week (1)work on new project action
16:39 (2)make square program the basics of
16:39 jaskirat vaibhavdaren: yeap sounds good , finally completed that !!
16:39 walterbender: we both worked past week and finalised up with examples
16:40 vaibhavdaren jaskirat has checked most of them and put the tag check on them
16:40 roadblock:-
16:40 1)though i  understand the meaning of code, i am unable to understand how calling is done between functions.
16:40 2)there are comments between files
16:40 but some of the code seems to cryptic to mee
16:41 walterbender vaibhavdaren, I am confused
16:41 vaibhavdaren walterbender, jaskirat:what should be approach in such a case?
16:41 walterbender what is "new project action"?
16:42 vaibhavdaren the new project button in planet :- should open a blank project
16:42 walterbender Oh...
16:42 vaibhavdaren its working like fork at present
16:42 jaskirat walterbender: yes that was an error
16:43 It usually open the previous working but when we click on thst bkank page it does not work
16:43 walterbender vaibhavdaren, did you look at turtledefs.js ?
16:43 vaibhavdaren yes
16:43 walterbender that should be where you define what a new project looks like
16:43 as far as the new project button on the planet, I have to poke around to find the code
16:44 in the planet subdir
16:44 vaibhavdaren, we can go into this after the meeting
16:44 vaibhavdaren yes ,i am comfortable with that one , I just have to change the create default stack variable
16:44 okay sure :D
16:45 walterbender vaibhavdaren, what else do you have in mind for next week?
16:45 any headway on the plugins?
16:45 vaibhavdaren xmlhttprequests "i need a little help with that too"
16:46 walterbender vaibhavdaren, oK
16:46 vaibhavdaren though i have learnt about fetch api and promises
16:46 i just need a liitle direction
16:47 walterbender the random_quote plugin should work and serve as a guide for the others
16:47 alas, browser security is a moving target
16:48 unimauro has quit IRC
16:48 jaskirat walterbender: i guess if he could start working on excersies part as he is completed with porting !!!?
16:48 walterbender: i guess if he could start working on excersies part as he is completed with porting !!!?
16:48 walterbender: i guess if he could start working on excersies part as he is completed with porting !!!?
16:48 walterbender BTW, you have some unrelated changes in your PR. Please do a pull --rebase upstream
16:48 vaibhavdaren okay
16:48 should I also squash all the commits into one ?
16:48 walterbender moving in...
16:49 riyalohia,  are you ready?
16:49 pikurasa <pikurasa!~devin@> has joined #sugar-meeting
16:49 walterbender vaibhavdaren, don't worry about squashing
16:49 riyalohia walterbender, yes.
16:49 pikurasa, hi!
16:49 walterbender riyalohia, before you begin, I have a request
16:49 riyalohia walterbender, sure
16:49 walterbender can you please, as a separate PR, add Pythagorean tuning?
16:50 pikurasa hi
16:50 riyalohia walterbender, sure. I will add it.
16:50 walterbender @pikurasa, I fixed scale degree :P
16:50 pikurasa with a baby. May be slow to respond at times
16:50 walterbender with my infant grandson :)
16:50 riyalohia, please tell us about your week
16:50 pikurasa walterbender: 1-7 or something else? I saw 1-7
16:51 thanks
16:51 walterbender pikurasa, octaves
16:51 riyalohia This week I worked on circle of notes. Link to the pr: https://github.com/sugarlabs/m[…]cblocks/pull/1220
16:51 Also, I initiated tabular representation of notes.
16:51 Currently, temperament systems with pitch number greater than 12 gives incorrect note information on hovering the individual circles. I might need to tweak some existing functions in musicblocks.
16:51 pikurasa walterbender: I drafted something for modes that I think will be helpful, btw. Will send soon
16:51 riyalohia In the upcoming week, I will work on this issue and will continue working on table of notes.
16:52 walterbender riyalohia, yes... I think there are lots of places I hardwired in 12
16:52 sloppy of me
16:52 pikurasa I would not regret it. It makes sense to start there
16:53 riyalohia walterbender, I guess we need to change pitchToNumber and numberToPitch in musicutils.
16:53 walterbender I think there are also some places that assume an octave is +-12
16:54 pikurasa riyalohia: thanks for pushing your code, often, btw, as well as the communication
16:54 riyalohia walterbender, yes.
16:54 pikurasa, welcome :)
16:54 walterbender riyalohia, anything to report to the group?
16:54 unimauro <unimauro!~unimauro@> has joined #sugar-meeting
16:55 riyalohia walterbender, I have nothing to report.
16:55 walterbender thx
16:55 rdrsadhu, I think you are next
16:56 rdrsadhu yes, Hi!
16:56 (1) what I did during the week:
16:56 Moved and updated documentation of Read, Calculate, Log, Write, Terminal
16:56 .
16:56 (2) what I plan to do in the coming week:
16:56 2 more main activities are left (pippy, jukebox). I plan to get them done by Sunday
16:56 and then move on to the other activities.
16:57 I'll be using Tony Anderson's report
16:57 walterbender then Fructose is done :)
16:57 rdrsadhu to determine which activities presently work with the latest sugar
16:57 and move them first.
16:57 walterbender +1
16:57 rdrsadhu yes, then fructose is done :)
16:57 .
16:57 (3) any concerns/roadblocks/issues:
16:57 None
16:57 walterbender seems like good progress
16:58 needs to help with more reviewing on your PRs too
16:58 rdrsadhu thanks
16:58 walterbender Pro-Panda, your turn
16:58 Pro-Panda yes, hi everyone :-)
16:58 This week:
16:58 I ported 4 activities to Python 3: Terminal, Chat, Read and Calculate to Python 3. Fixed some issues discovered in the port of toolkit.
16:58 Datastore: The C extension has an issue needs some more work. Will work on it this week
16:58 (I spent a fine amount of time working on fixing my PC, had some issues in the dbus configuration while working on Datastore)
16:59 Artwork: I removed em.py from our package in favor of using upstream python3-empy package. I am trying to build debian and Fedora packages for the community to test
16:59 Also reviewed a few pull requests (not re Python 3)
16:59 Next Week:
16:59 I think I have my hands in a lot of pies now. I will wrap as many as possible sequentially
16:59 walterbender Pro-Panda, porting activities is the best way to debug the toolkit port :)
17:00 Pro-Panda walterbender: +1
17:00 Problems faced:
17:00 octamois walterbender: +1
17:00 Pro-Panda Recently, I had some doubts in packaging. Quozl_ has been constantly helping in the same.
17:00 None major roadblocks as of now
17:00 walterbender good to hear
17:00 yes, Quozl_ has been a great help
17:01 Pro-Panda +1
17:01 walterbender anything else to report to the group?
17:01 Pro-Panda none, thank you :-)
17:01 walterbender octamois, your turn
17:01 octamois Pro-Panda: Can I ask you something ?
17:01 Pro-Panda please
17:02 octamois Did you find a way for Fedora packaging?
17:02 Our sugar-docs don't have so I asked you.
17:03 Pro-Panda I am working on making a Debian Package for Sugar Artwork right now. I haven't looked into Fedora packaging yet
17:03 octamois Cool
17:03 ibiam has quit IRC
17:03 octamois Now moving forward
17:03 My greetings to everyone
17:03 walterbender hi
17:03 ibiam <ibiam!~ibiam@> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:04 octamois I looked for makefile fixing but think that until upstream discontinue python2, stick to these makefile (When upstream will move to python3 explicitly, we can make change for few macro to python3, We can't make it currently because in python.m4, we can only work with a single python, either py2 or py3, There is no way I can find to fix this) and as
17:04 whole of the toolkit is python2&3 compatible, Our toolkit will not face error sue to porting during installation.
17:04 walterbender: Hello :-)
17:04 For next week, I am looking for porting activities. Blog contain everything you would like to know.
17:05 mohayon_ <mohayon_!~mohayon@softbank-robotics-gw1.ter4.eqx2.par.cust.as8218.eu> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:05 octamois We use the same sources to build both a python2 loader and a python3 loader. The python 2 keeps the same name for backward compatibility, while the py3 one is explicitly called python3.
17:05 Supporting py2 and py3 in the same build is tricky since the existing autotools support is limited, so we make some assumptions:
17:05  — there are separate — enable-python2 and — enable-python3 flags, — enable-python has been removed
17:05  — for py2 we only check the binary and the python2-config tool, while
17:05 for py3 we use the proper AM_PATH_PYTHON macro
17:05  — for py2 we manually detect pyexecdir, hopefully with the same logic
17:05 used by the AM_PATH_PYTHON macro
17:05  — we do not check for Python.h header anymore since it is not strictly
17:05 needed and autoconf caching makes it difficult
17:05  — we build the tests and examples only for python3
17:05 In the findings I came across that AM_PATH_PYTHON fetches _AM_PYTHON_INTERPRETER_LIST and it is system dependent that which python it supports or it is more of a upstream dependency. Currently most of the distos have the python2 support.
17:05 My blog this week is at https://medium.com/@anmolmishr[…]gsoc-c7bd67a66f46
17:05 will be giving a loads of PR next week and 1 activity for this week ;)
17:05 walterbender which activity?
17:06 ibiam has quit IRC
17:06 octamois I have not looked to that part
17:06 walterbender please coordinate with Pro-Panda
17:06 octamois I am thinking to port the already updated activity by yash
17:07 ibiam <ibiam!~ibiam@> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:07 octamois walterbender: +1
17:07 walterbender maybe the new Record that Quozl_ has just updated to gtk-3 and gs-1.0?
17:07 octamois I think so
17:07 But I don't have camera so maybe will not be able to test it
17:08 ibiam has quit IRC
17:08 octamois Though I will manage to borrow it and will do it then :-)
17:08 Record will done then.
17:08 ibiam <ibiam!~ibiam@> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:08 walterbender I only suggest it because it touches on a lot of things, e.g., gstreamer
17:09 so it will probably stress test the toolkit in new ways
17:09 Pro-Panda octamois: I have a doubt, if we don't change the makefiles, how will the toolkit work in both Python2 and Python3 ?
17:09 octamois walterbender: I think that for makefile, I can put up my findings for future devs in sugar-docs.
17:09 mohayon_ has quit IRC
17:09 Abdul_ <Abdul_!d4af9668@gateway/web/freenode/ip.> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:10 walterbender needs to read up on the makefile... it seems strange to me.
17:11 octamois Pro-Panda: Makefiles help us to install the files of toolkit in the system, as our files are Py2,3 compatible, it won't create fuss. All system do have python installed
17:12 Pro-Panda octamois: But, we need to make sure that the toolkit is installed for both Python 2 and Python 3
17:12 octamois: for example, if the toolkit is installed only for Python 2. We won't be able to run sugar once jarabe is ported to Python 3
17:12 octamois sharing a link, just a minute
17:13 llaske has quit IRC
17:13 Pro-Panda octamois: Or if the toolkit is installed only for Python 3, Most of the activities won't be able to run since they will still be in Python 2
17:14 octamois https://stackoverflow.com/ques[…]-python3/19173047
17:15 thinks he is unable to take it any further steps from here, all things look hindered for the moment.
17:16 walterbender we should go into this after the meeting as well..
17:16 let's move on
17:16 octamois +1
17:16 walterbender iqra, I think you are next?
17:16 iqra Hi
17:16 This week, I worked on activity called Cuisenaire rods . Basically this activity uses Cuisenaire rods to teach kids single digit addition 1.addition of numbers with Cuisenaire rods  2. implemented the drag and drop functionality  3.made some changes to the Cuisenaire rods interface suggested by Caryl like not including the timer.  4.Wrote the blog for this week
17:17 We had a meeting yesterday, where some changes were discussed like not including the timer as this would be stressful for the kids who play the activity. The github links, the video and screenshots can be seen on my blog. https://iqragsoc.wordpress.com[…]08/gsoc-7th-week/
17:17 For next week:  I will work on single digit subtraction with Cuisenaire rods
17:17 llaske <llaske!~llaske@> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:17 walterbender iqra, FWIW, there is a "Cuisenaire"-like version of Abacus... for fractions...
17:18 not sure if we want some sort of tie-in down the road
17:18 iqra My mentors suggested to add this new activity in the start of gsoc. no there will be no tie-in-down
17:18 subtraction and multiplication
17:19 walterbender iqra, I agree... we want a stand-alone activity
17:19 I just think it is nice to explore ideas from multiple points of view
17:20 iqra *basically I am using rods for fractions, multiplication and subtraction too. Yes :)
17:20 walterbender iqra, any issues/concerns/roadblocks?
17:20 llaske has quit IRC
17:20 iqra roadblocks none
17:21 walterbender amanharitsh123__, your turn?
17:21 thx iqra
17:21 iqra Welcome :)
17:21 amanharitsh123__ Hi Everyone , So this week I fixed some issues regarding the firstboot scripts.https://github.com/amanharitsh[…]school-box/pull/4 https://github.com/amanharitsh[…]hool-box/issues/5 , also I tested various methods to make wifi hotspot and bridging with ethernet . I am having some issues with the bridging part .I will try to resolve them by the weekend.
17:21 Also I have tested the image several times now , the sugarizer installation works flawlessly . The image starts the server headlessly(We dont need to login) and is listening on the local network.
17:21 llaske <llaske!~llaske@> has joined #sugar-meeting
17:21 walterbender nice
17:22 amanharitsh123__ Our rpi part will almost get complete after the hostspot
17:22 :)
17:22 walterbender what is queued up for next week? other than the hotspot?
17:23 amanharitsh123__ well , I will add cron jobs to perform docker update
17:23 will add automatic redirection to sugarizer ,
17:23 and test how android devices will interact with rpi
17:25 walterbender any concerns?

17:25 regarding this
17:25 walterbender good stuff
17:25 llaske has quit IRC
17:26 amanharitsh123__ only concern is wifi and bridging right now :) , but will try to resolve them all by the weekend

17:26 amanharitsh123__ walterbender:  Thank You :)
17:26 walterbender a-ritwik, I think we are at the top of the alphabet
17:27 a-ritwik Hi
17:27 In meter in rhythm ruler, I implemented what we had discussed earlier to find after how many units, rulers align.
17:27 pikurasa hi a-ritwik
17:27 a-ritwik It now also shows how many time each ruler has to repeat before alignment occurs. In case they align after long distance then we keep alignment as 2.
17:27 pikurasa: hi
17:27 pikurasa sent some messages pm, btw
17:28 walterbender a-ritwik, so you have the meter associated with the meter properly?
17:28 pikurasa tested, but did not see result in UI yet
17:29 a-ritwik Yes, output is coming correctly
17:29 walterbender great
17:29 pikurasa oh, I see. output is in console only now
17:29 unimauro has quit IRC

17:38 I am working on it, This was last updated yesterday, Made several changes to its UI and content since then. Stuck on one problem told below in challenges. Would share the link of working, soon to the sugar-devel mailing list.
17:38 Challenges: There was some error in the above content that my one categories of issues are shown, I figured out the contents and found my other module is not being exported, still working on proper exporting.
17:38 https://drive.google.com/open?[…]bm12US6ALwhKIAECb
17:38 This code is not exporting, if anybody can help me in getting those things exported?
17:39 Next Week: Complete it and backend of the dashboard.
17:40 If anyone can help me out in figuring out why the small above is not being exported?
17:40 walterbender Pratul1997, it is starting to come together :)
