Hi, this is Devin. Mainly working on Music Blocks |
22:00 |
Quozl |
g'day. |
22:00 |
pikurasa |
hi Quozl |
22:01 |
|
(and maybe fatigued of typing, so forgive any shorthand) |
22:01 |
Quozl |
heh. |
22:03 |
|
this week i worked on testing new WebKit GTK+ with Browse, looking for source code changes for the Find Words 3.1 activity, released the Music Keyboard 11 activity, and tested Music Blocks embedded in Browse on Ubuntu 16.04. |
22:04 |
pikurasa |
Quozl: Thanks for trying out Music Blocks (MB) |
22:05 |
|
As for what I did... |
22:05 |
Quozl |
pikurasa: as a choral and piano musician, i'm very sensitive to rhythm timing; sometimes i noticed that Music Blocks v2.1 doesn't keep accurate time unless the blocks are hidden; that's expected isn't it? it looks like timing is best effort. |
22:05 |
pikurasa |
Quozl: the timing is better than it has been, but I agree |
22:06 |
|
with music, we /start/ from "perfection" |
22:06 |
|
What do you mean by "unless blocks are hidden"? |
22:06 |
Quozl |
there's a hide blocks button. |
22:06 |
|
if you press it, the blocks are hidden. |
22:07 |
|
when you play a piece with the blocks visible, there are graphics updates to the blocks, highlighting execution. |
22:07 |
pikurasa |
oh that... /that/ improves performance? |
22:07 |
Quozl |
my guess is that with the blocks hidden, less work needs to be done, and the system as a whole can concentrate on timing. |
22:08 |
pikurasa |
Quozl: one thing that really improves performance is the newer feature to "compile" the code beforehand |
22:08 |
|
It is the play button on the right side of screen |
22:08 |
|
(above settings, I think) |
22:08 |
|
but, then the code is not running live anymore |
22:09 |
|
Mainly, this week I updated the examples https://github.com/walterbende[…]e/master/examples and found new bugs |
22:10 |
|
I have a couple bugs, that I see as conceptual issues that I am eager for us to solve. For example, https://github.com/walterbende[…]blocks/issues/832 |
22:10 |
Quozl |
pikurasa: thanks, yes, that other play button seems different. |
22:11 |
pikurasa |
Quozl: yes, when I do a demo, I tend to use that play button, so I can assure a good performance |
22:12 |
|
yeah, if the notes play late, then it changes the rhythm, which is not good. If you find any places in the code for improvement, please chime in. |
22:13 |
Quozl |
pikurasa: no worries, looks like my experience is already fixed by a feature. ;-) |
22:13 |
pikurasa |
great. |
22:14 |
Quozl |
i've nothing further to report for the meeting. with BWV996 PDF on screen i'm itching to play it. so little manuscript score in the house, and i've not found a source of manuscript on the web that doesn't require payment. |
22:15 |
pikurasa |
Quozl: then you do not know mutopia project |
22:15 |
Quozl |
pikurasa: much that i do not know. i can google. |

22:15 |
Quozl |
oh, cool, thanks! |
22:16 |
pikurasa |
clone all the code, then compile the scores when you want them |
22:16 |
|
If you find "bugs" (errors) in the score. You can input them yourself. |

22:17 |
|
All the scores are under a free license |
22:18 |
Quozl |
hmm, thanks. |
22:19 |
|
i've nothing further, motion: close meeting. |
