Welcome everyone |
23:03 |
|
If/when we have a quorum, we can bless this meeting as official, but meanwhile, lots to discuss. |
23:04 |
meeting |
<Jose_Miguel-es> ;) |
23:04 |
walterbender |
I've asked tch__ to start us off with an update regarding Sugar development |
23:04 |
|
#topic the Next Release |
23:05 |
CanoeBerry |
Cerlyn & All: howdy.. |
23:05 |
walterbender |
hi adam |
23:05 |
tch__ |
I think we should put the time-based releases aside for 108, until we have something more substantial to release... |
23:05 |
walterbender |
such as... working collaboration :) |
23:05 |
tch__ |
exactly, |
23:06 |
Quozl` |
that is, working collaboration without workarounds that fedora doesn't like. |
23:06 |
walterbender |
Quozl`, yes... working out of the box |
23:06 |
tch__ |
Quozl`, yes, samdroid and walter had an interesting breakthrough this weekend, |
23:07 |
Quozl` |
a cost of doing business with fedora. |
23:08 |
walterbender |
my personal goal is stability |
23:08 |
icarito |
tch__, when do you think we should have another sugar release? |
23:08 |
tch__ |
there have been other improvements, so I will just make a 107 release just to make it clear that we are still moving forward |
23:08 |
|
icarito, when its done? hehe |
23:08 |
Quozl` |
tch__: re time-based releases, i don't mind either way, but i suggest not releasing 107 until 108 is imminent. |
23:09 |
tch__ |
Quozl`, well, these odd release are just for organizing the development process, have no other value |
23:09 |
|
GrannieB has quit IRC |
23:10 |
Quozl` |
tch__: do we get any serious testing of the odd-numbered releases? i've been a bit suspicious of the test coverage in the past year. |
23:10 |
walterbender |
icarito, is there some time pressure you are feeling for a new release |
23:10 |
icarito |
tch__, the target was releasing in December, right? You don't think there will be significant improvement to release by then? |
23:11 |
walterbender |
icarito, the collaboration bits may not be finished by then |
23:11 |
|
or well tested :P |
23:11 |
tch__ |
Quozl`, we do have testing, but we can certainly do better... we need more community involvement |
23:11 |
icarito |
walterbender, it's just a measure of the health of the community, also we agreed it would be good to release in time by southern hemisphere schoolyear |
23:11 |
Quozl` |
tch__: yes, we're not getting enough community involvement, but delaying releases won't help with that. |
23:12 |
tch__ |
Quozl`, I think we should do a 107 release so we can make it happen, but we can have as many 107.x release as we need |
23:12 |
walterbender |
icarito, would anyone care if we release something without significant improvements? |
23:13 |
Quozl` |
walterbender: i think the collaboration rework can be held off until everything works. separate branch, perhaps. |
23:13 |
walterbender |
I think that is tch__ 's point |
23:13 |
icarito |
walterbender, I don't know, do you think they have cared in the past? |
23:13 |
walterbender |
icarito, I don't know, but we have had significant changes with each release in the past |
23:13 |
|
GrannieB <GrannieB!~webchat rev-18-85-44-69.sugarlabs.org> has joined #sugar-meeting |
23:13 |
walterbender |
right now, very little by way of changes in the 108 queue |
23:14 |
|
except the collaboration bits, which may or may not be ready for December |
23:14 |
icarito |
walterbender, it has always been a good sign that we have had consistent releases. I don't think changes have been so significant between several versions. |
23:15 |
walterbender |
icarito, I won't argue with you but I will point out that our release manager has the final say in this matter |
23:15 |
icarito |
yes I was going to say that too |
23:15 |
Quozl` |
i think the changes since 0.106.1 are significant, but i'm having a hard time identifying the 0.106.1 release in the master branch. i can only find 0.106.0. |
23:16 |
walterbender |
maybe we should continue this discussion the devel list and move on to other topics here. |
23:16 |
tch__ |
Quozl`, well, things moved forward in master, and not all that was safe for a bug fix release, so 0.106.1 exists only in a branch (safe from unnecesary changes) |
23:17 |
Quozl` |
walterbender: agreed, move on, consider the above a progress report from release engineer, with discussion. ;-) |
23:18 |
tch__ |
anyway, what I am suggesting is, we do 107.x release until we get enough progress on collaboration |
23:18 |
|
walterbender, sure, we can continue on ML |
23:18 |
walterbender |
thanks for the update tch__ |
23:18 |
|
#topic GCI |
23:19 |
|
just an update: I have solicited enough (5-6) mentors to feel comfortable applying for GCI again this year |
23:19 |
|
hopefully it will mean more new contributors :) |
23:19 |
Quozl` |
can you list the mentors? |
23:19 |
walterbender |
I'll keep SLOB abreast of the application process. |
23:19 |
meeting |
<Jose_Miguel-es> Excellent! |
23:19 |
walterbender |
German in NI |
23:20 |
|
A couple of GSOC participants in IN |
23:20 |
|
a couple of former Python Joven hackers in UY |
23:20 |
|
and tch and myself |
23:20 |
|
I could use more of course, but I think we can make do with that team |
23:21 |
|
any other comments/suggestions? |
23:22 |
Quozl` |
thanks. i've no comments or suggestions. |
23:22 |

#topic membership/election |
23:22 |
|
GrannieB, any updates since last week? |
23:23 |
GrannieB |
newsletter is almost ready |
23:23 |
|
waiting in Adam |
23:23 |
walterbender |
oh... so same as last week :) |
23:23 |
GrannieB |
for "server report" |
23:24 |
|
no… much closer to ready |
23:24 |
walterbender |
GrannieB, did you need anything more from me? any of those pictures useful? |
23:24 |
GrannieB |
yes! great pics |
23:25 |
|
is pdf format ok? |
23:25 |
walterbender |
GrannieB, anything sense of what the schedule will be for the election? |
23:25 |
|
GrannieB, PDF is fine |
23:26 |
GrannieB |
we are still looking at the end of December |
23:26 |
|
sorry… mid December |
23:27 |
walterbender |
mid-December for the election itself? can you fill in the dates for everything else that needs to happen? |
23:27 |
GrannieB |
It hasn't changed as I see it |
23:28 |
CanoeBerry |
GrannieB & All: can these dates be posted to something like http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/O[…]5-2016-candidates ? |
23:28 |
walterbender |
GrannieB, so when do you want people to "declare" themselves as candidates? |
23:29 |
GrannieB |
October was the origingal time… But I think mid-November might be OK if we don't get enough |
23:30 |
|
They would still have 2 weeks to do their statements (by end of Nov.) |
23:30 |
walterbender |
GrannieB, will you guys create a fresh page in the wiki for the upcoming election? the 2014 page is a bit stale |
23:30 |
GrannieB |
Samson was going to do it |
23:31 |
walterbender |
OK... perhaps you can remind him :P |
23:31 |
GrannieB |
Yep will do |
23:31 |
walterbender |
we can add a link from the landing page of the wiki as well |
23:31 |
GrannieB |
and in the newsletter |
23:32 |
walterbender |
+1 |
23:32 |
|
anything else you guys want to report? |
23:32 |
GrannieB |
not now |
23:33 |
walterbender |
OK. Thanks for the update |
23:33 |

23:43 |
walterbender |
CanoeBerry, ??? |
23:44 |
Cerlyn |
Fedora supposedly approved a bundling measure where apps could have their own library versions (such as for collaboration). However it is not preferred, and said libraries have to be explicitly declared. |
23:44 |
CanoeBerry |
Nothing immediate? |
23:45 |
walterbender |
Cerlyn, yeah... was discussed at the GNOME Boston hackfest this weekend |
23:45 |
|
tch__, attended on behalf of SL |
23:45 |
CanoeBerry |
I and Caryl were wondering about http://sugarizer.org - any offhand news here? |
23:46 |
walterbender |
CanoeBerry, maybe we can get Lionel to report in next time |
23:46 |
|
CanoeBerry, lots of progress over the summer, in part thanks to GSoC |

23:47 |
|
