07:32 curmudgeon I am having a problem getting started.
07:32 Downloaded etoys-5.0.2408.tar.gz.
07:32 Unizpped it, and changed to the top directory.
07:32 Ran ./configure (didn't seem to do much).
07:32 Ran make install (did a lot, but went by so fast, I missed a lot of it :) ).
07:33 Output ended with (no obvious errors, and a total of 1794 files installed):
07:33 "for f in application-x-squeak-project application-x-squeak-image application-x-squeak-object application-x-squeak-source application-x-squeak-archive ; do \
07:33        ln -sf activity-etoys.svg /usr/local/share/sugar/activities/Etoys.activity/activity/$f.svg ; \
07:33 done
07:33 update-mime-database /usr/local/share/mime"
07:33 Tried to run it:
07:34 $ etoys
07:34 /usr/local/bin/etoys: line 114: exec: squeak: not found
07:34 I did download and search through the manual (0.8), but the installation section (2.1) does not mention linux at all. :(
07:35 Can someone explain what is going on?
07:35 Thanks.
07:36 @HELP (just noticed that) :)
09:36 bertf curmudgeon: you need to install Squeak, too. Or, install Etoys-To-Go, it includes Squeak: http://squeakland.org/download/
09:53 curmudgeon I tried Etoys-To-Go, but it seems incompatible with a true multi-user system (unless there is some way of changing the configuration so that it writes the files in the personal directories of the users).
09:54 It seems that gentoo removed squeak more than three years ago - apparently for security reasons, and it is not in the tree.
09:54 I was hoping to find a bundled copy. :)
09:55 It seems that the Windows download comes with squeak.
09:55 bertf yes, and Etoys-to-go does too. but Linux ditros want to package stuff themselved
09:56 there is a portage overlay for squeak
09:56 http://gpo.zugaina.org/dev-lang/squeak/ChangeLog
09:57 curmudgeon I will take a look at that.
09:57 bertf or you install squeak-vm from the author's site
09:57 curmudgeon I have a couple of overlays installed.
09:57 bertf http://squeakvm.org/unix/
09:58 afk
10:00 curmudgeon It seems like the files from http://squeakvm.org/unix/ are in another (numbering) dimension (4.10.* instead of 4.4.*).
10:02 They don't seem too confident in their 64-bit images (which I have to have - my machines will not run 32 bit code).
10:03 Thanks for your help.
